If you're planning a trip to Los Angeles, you need a car. The city and attractions are scattered and if you're like me and want to visit Joshua Tree, renting a car is the best option.
I decided to go with Hertz, one of the rental car companies that are covered by American Express rental car privileges. For more information, select enroll via the benefits page if you are an American Express Platinum cardholder or visit hertz.com/amexplatinum.
Include CDP#211762 on your reservation and you're halfway there to enjoying your trip. Perks include a vehicle upgrade, options to bypass the counter if needs be, the option to return the vehicle at your leisure, and a 10% bonus on your Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.
After completing the reservation, you will receive a confirmation email.
Closer to the date, you'll receive additional emails with details about your rental. Also, on the day of pick up, you'll receive an email with the below information in it.
You also receive an email with your rental car agreement and toll-free numbers that are available to you.
It's time to enjoy your rental and return the car at your leisure.
A key thing to note. The entire reservation has to be charged to your American Express Platinum card. Be sure to find out what the card covers to avoid paying any extra fees at the counter. As you can see below, I decline all options except the Liability insurance. ($16.35 a day)
There is an option to prepay a tank of gas on your return. I always deny this option and bring the tank back on full. It's always cheaper to do so. As you can see above, I paid a fuel service charge because I brought the tank back slightly above the halfway mark. (Try to avoid this they also charge a penalty fee of $9.99 per gallon)
The point of traveling is to maximize your money for a good trip. With this instance, I paid the fuel charge to avoid missing my flight.
