Your NYC Guide to the Holidays

The holiday season is here in New York City, and here is your guide to all things you shouldn't miss if you're in New York City or plan to visit.

The New York Botanical Garden's Holiday Train Show

Today, November 23rd marks the opening of the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden. The annual event will showcase 175 famous New York City landmarks, including Central Park with a replica of the newly renovated Belvedere Castle. All of which are designed with natural materials such as acorns, birch bark, cinnamon sticks, and seeds. The show will run until January 26th, 2020.

Here's a preview of what to expect this year:

The Radio City Hall Christmas Spectacular

During the holidays, the Rockets are one of the hottest tickets in New York City. I saw their show years ago, and they did not disappoint. The show has been running since November 8th and will continue to run until January 5th. The earlier you go, the better the chances of scoring reasonably priced tickets. A quick note, once inside, don't neglect the 3D glasses as I did, it adds to the show.

The Saks Fifth Avenue Light Show

On November 25th, Saks Fifth Avenue will debut its annual light show. The open night is expected to feature a variety of performances to get you in the holiday spirit . Afterward, the light show is visible from 4:30 pm to 11:30 pm throughout the holidays.

The Rockefeller Christmas tree

Every year, the news follows the movement of the Rockefeller Christmas tree. From where the tree is from, its ride into NYC, and the process of becoming a Christmas spectacular. On December 4th at 8:00 pm the tree will light up to transform the city's skyline, followed by performances until 10:00 pm.

Ice Skating

There are a few places in New York City that are perfect for ice skating, that's if you don't mind being in a crowd. Rockefeller center is a popular pick. The large ice rink and atmosphere would warm any cold night.

Another great pick is the rink at Brook Field Place. This is a smaller rink and it's great for kids. On December 10th and 11th, there will be a Holiday Ice Concert at the rink that's held by a few former Olympians.

Lastly, the TWA Hotel is set to open an ice rink at its location at JFK Airport on November 30th. The custom 56 by 44-foot rink will be open until the end of February 2020. It's open to hotel guests and visitors alike for a fee of $15.00 and a $10.00 fee to rent skates. Children under 12 pay $10.00 and $8.00 to rent skates.

Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park

There will be many Christmas markets throughout the city for the holidays but here is the one you shouldn't miss. The Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park has vendors from all over the world, selling intricate gifts and foods. Be sure to check it out!
